Says Carl Turpin The wonderful Monterey County scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Big Sur River will make you feel great. The starting point is not too far from Salinas, as you can see on the road map further down. The sections for whitewater     rafting and kayaking here in California are often more challenging than in other states, so better not forget that rivers here are less forgiving. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Lodging is available near the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This stretch has has enough mileage, it's perfect for a one day trip. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you won't find many other paddling spots. This stretch of Big Sur River in California is 4 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II+ section. Whitewater paddling here in the Santa Lucia Range is   a great experience. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature will make you glad you came. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park to Motels section is one of them. Briefly about the general area: Why not take a refreshing hike along the Oak Grove Trail; a day at beautiful Wreck Beach near Big Sur River is a great thing to do. That right there is heaps of exciting things already but it goes on, the Santa Lucia Range has it all. Nearby Pfeiffer Gulch is a great location to go if you're at Big Sur River, and visiting Andrew Molera State Park is a good thing to do.
