If you're coming from Chico it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people.     The wonderful California scenery and the playfulness of the water make the trip here worthwhile. This is a pretty decent length section, good for a one day paddling trip. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good spots for that around here. The beauty of the Northern Sierra Nevada is a great plus for this river. The PGandE Powerhouse to Covered Bridge section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. There are some good hotels near the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking   here in California are often tougher than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. Briefly about the general area: The beauty of mother nature reveals herself at Carson Spring. Bidwell-Sacramento River State Park is both tremendous and picturesque, and it's close to Butte Creek, and Butte Creek is not far at all from Paradise. This is such a great river. Butte Creek is close to Bidwell Mansion State Park which is a delightful place. From a rainfall point of view Butte Creek is a rather normal place. January is the wettest month with most rain while July is typically the driest month.
