The starting location is a reasonable drive from Redding, as you can see on the road map further down. This stretch of Coffee Creek in Trinity County is 10 miles long and has been rated as a class III-IV section by American Whitewater. If you hurry you can run this stretch in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. The wonderful California scenery and the playfulness of the water have people coming here. |
The wild scenery of the Klamath Mountains is great. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. There's camping available near Coffee Creek. Not too many hotels
| nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The Coffee Creek Road to Trinity River stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside California you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less manageable. Briefly about the general area: This is a popular place for folks from Trinity Center, and Shasta National Forest is a splendid location to take
a look at on a beautiful day. All year is a splendid time in the Klamath Mountains if you like the outdoors. At Coffee Creek through the summer months highs are in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures drop down
into the 40's. For the duration of the wintertime highs are regularly in the 40's with temperatures at Coffee Creek dipping down into the 20's all through winter nights.
