If you're coming from Sacramento—Arden-Arcade—Roseville it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. If you're
a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping
in your car. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the Outingdale to Highway 49 section is one of them. The river winds through the Northern Sierra Nevada and you get great scenery. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so
you'd better keep in mind that many runs in this state are not easy. The beautiful scenery of California and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. You can enjoy this stretch more if you take your time, so pack your camping stuff.

Briefly about the general area:
Cosumnes River - Middle Fork is next to Marshall Gold Discovery State Park which is a striking place. Here at Cosumnes River - Middle Fork there are plenty of folks from River Pines; Indian Grinding Rock State Park is both good and striking.
