  This section of Coyote Creek in Santa Clara County is 4.9 miles long and is a class II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The natural beauty of Santa Clara County and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in California are harder than the national norm, so keep in mind that rivers here are less forgiving. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature will
    have you coming back for more. This stretch has has enough mileage, it's perfect for a one day trip. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are not so many other
good spots for that around here. The Gilroy Hot Springs Road to Coyote Reservoir section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.

next door to Coyote Creek is Dexter Canyon, and while you're here you will meet lots of folks from nearby Gilroy. Henry W. Coe State Park is a good place to stretch your legs a bit. San Juan Bautista State Park is a picturesque location any time of year. At Coyote Creek during the warmest time of the year highs are in the 80's. Through the dark hours of summer temperatures descend down into the 50's. Through the winter highs are in the 50's with temperatures at Coyote Creek dipping down into the 30's throughout winter nights. An average amount of precipitation falls at Coyote Creek.
