You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these     hotels fill up quick. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, good for a one day paddling trip. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in California tend to be more challenging than the national average, so better not forget that the rivers in this state are less manageable. Briefly about the general area: On a magnificent day at Elk Creek you can take a hike along the Boundary Trail, and Klamath National Forest is both good and pretty. You'll beyond doubt wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the entertaining things in the Klamath Mountains. Elk Creek is not far at all from Happy Camp, and if the weather is great, you can go for a hike along the Boundary National Recreation Trail. This river is always fun.
