The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Chico, as you can see on the road map further down. This stretch of Feather River - North Fork in Plumas County is 6 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III-IV section. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter,      this area has a large number of paddling rivers. On this section you do get some distance, it's good length for a morning trip. The beauty of the Northern Sierra Nevada is a great plus for this river. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging than the national average, so better not forget that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. This is not the only paddling section in   this river system, there are others too. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Briefly about the general area: Beaches are good; and Catfish Beach in close proximity to Feather River - North Fork is no exception, and if you're stopping by from Twain, you won't be the only one. So much fun stuff to do in the Northern Sierra Nevada, not sufficient time. A fine site in the vicinity of Feather River - North Fork is Crablouse Ravine, and wonderful hiking is available along the Yellow Creek Trail. This is such a great river. Everybody loves Plumas National Forest, and Smith Point is not far at all.
