California whitewater, Fresno River Madera county, Road 600 to Road 415 section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS IV-V(V+)     11 miles   The Road 600 to Road 415 stretch of Fresno River in Madera County is 11 miles long and has been rated as a class IV-V(V+) section by American Whitewater. The wonderful Madera County scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water make the trip here worthwhile. There are so many stretches to paddle in this river system, the Road 600 to Road 415 stretch is just one of many. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Whether     you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more demanding, so keep in mind that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The Central Sierra Nevada scenery is wonderful. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Madera, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Getting your paddling muscles activated and   a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so pack your sleeping bag. Briefly about the general area: French Gulch is near Fresno River and is absolutely a fine place to check out, and Fresno River is a location with many visitors from Coarsegold. Man, is there heaps of enjoyable stuff to do in the Central Sierra Nevada. The high level of rain makes Fresno River a reasonably wet location. The month with most of the rain is January, and the driest of the months is July. During the long summer days at Fresno River highs are frequently in the 80's; during summer nights temperatures are in the 50's.
