California whitewater, Grindstone Creek

Glenn county, Grindstone Road to Road 306 section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS III-IV     12 miles
The nature scenery of Glenn County and the water flowing gracefully down Grindstone Creek have people coming here. This stretch of Grindstone Creek in Glenn County is 12 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III-IV section. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in California is often more difficult
than elsewhere, so better not forget that rivers here are less forgiving. When you're paddling down a Klamath Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. The Grindstone Road to Road 306
section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Clearlake, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so go ahead
and pack your sleeping bag. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are lots of good spots for that around here.

Briefly about the general area:
It's always wonderful to explore Bearwallow Spring, and during your visit here you'll meet some folks from Elk Creek for sure. All year is a great time in the Klamath Mountains if you adore the outdoors. Put some time aside to spend at Manzanita Spring since you're here at Grindstone Creek. During the summer highs here at Grindstone Creek reach the 90's. Once the sun is down it sinks down to the 60's.
