The Gemmil Gulch Picnic Ground to Carr Creek section of Hayfork Creek in Trinity County is 12.7 miles long and has been rated as a class III-V section by American Whitewater. The put-in     location is a reasonable drive from Eureka-Arcata-Fortuna, as you can see on the road map further down. The river winds through the Klamath Mountains and you get great scenery. This section has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so why not pack your camp stove too. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The Gemmil   Gulch Picnic Ground to Carr Creek stretch is one of many paddling stretches in this river system.
