  The put-in is not too far from Crescent City North, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The scenic beauty of California and the playfulness of the water will make you feel great. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. The Bear Basin Road to Big Flat Road section of Hurdygurdy Creek is 7.7 miles long and is a class V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater.
    This stretch has has enough mileage, you can easily run it on an afternoon. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this
state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that many runs in this state are not easy. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. The Coast Ranges scenery is wonderful. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. There are a few other sections in this river system that  
can be paddled as well.

Briefly about the general area:
You might want to pay a visit to Devils Gap if you're here at Hurdygurdy Creek. There's good hiking along the Summit Valley Trail, and the smiling people of Gasquet like to hang out nearby. This is such a wonderful river. Places like Six Rivers National Forest are magnificent to take a look at, and the French Hill Trail offers hiking at its best. Hurdygurdy Creek commonly gets a good deal of precipitation. For the duration of December this area sees the most rain; July is the month with the least moisture. For the period of the summertime here at Hurdygurdy Creek, high temperatures ordinarily get into the 60's; the nighttime is slightly colder of course, ordinarily in the 50's.
