The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. You might be into whitewater rafting     or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you'll find a large number of good spots. This is a bit of a short stretch so no need to bring snacks. The beautiful Central Sierra Nevada scenery is an added bonus. The Balch Afterbay to confluence with Dinkey Creek stretch of Kings River - North Fork in Fresno County is 1.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class V section. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. There are plenty of other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because   these hotels fill up quick. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. Hiking is a popular thing to do around Kings River - North Fork; Bobs Flat Trail is a wonderful local trail. Interesting geology is available here; Indian Rock is near Kings River - North Fork. There's good hiking along the Deep Creek Trail, and folks from Dunlap love to come here. At Kings River - North Fork all through the summer highs are in the 70's.
