California whitewater, Klamath River

Siskiyou county, Iron Gate Dam to Sarah Totten Camp Ground section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS II     48 miles
The wonderful Siskiyou County scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water make the trip here worthwhile. The starting location is a short drive from Medford, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. There aren’t
any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in
this river system, there are a few others too. The wild scenery of the Siskiyou Mountains is great. The Iron Gate Dam to Sarah Totten Camp Ground section of Klamath River in California is 48 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II section. A stretch this long is of course too much for a one day trip, so better bring your camping gear along. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of rivers
for that. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in California are often more challenging than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are less forgiving.

Briefly about the general area:
Have a fine hiking adventure along the Copper Trail, and you'll in all probability meet some people from Klamath River here. There's no way someone can get bored here in the Siskiyou Mountains. Take a hike on the Clear Creek Trail; obviously, A tour to China Gulch is always fun. This river is so wonderful. Horse Trough Spring is a striking place to have a look at while you're at Klamath River.
