  The natural beauty of California and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in California are often tougher than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. If you're coming from Eureka-Arcata-Fortuna it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, please
    print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so pack your camp stove. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better
reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This river system is full of great paddling stretches, the Orleans to Weitchpec stretch is just one of them. There's camping available near Klamath River. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. The Orleans to Weitchpec stretch of Klamath River in Humboldt County is 16 miles long and is rated  
by American Whitewater as a class II section. The beauty of the Coast Ranges is a great plus for this river. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near.

Briefly about the general area:
There are fine places to explore along the Horse Ridge National Scenic Trail, and since you're here you will meet lots of people from nearby Orleans. You completely must go for the Coast Ranges. Don't leave Klamath River without first going for a hike along the Salmon Summit Recreation Trail. Red Cap Gulch is a tremendous site to discover.
