The starting location is a short drive from Crescent City North, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The Weitchpec to Klamath Glen stretch of Klamath River is 36 miles long and has been rated as a class II section by American Whitewater. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling places. There are so many stretches |
to paddle in this river system, the Weitchpec to Klamath Glen stretch is just one of many. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The beautiful scenery of California and the playfulness of the water
| are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. A bit of exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people. A section like this is is of course not run in a single day, perfect for a real wilderness adventure. Whitewater rafting and | |
|
kayaking in California is often more difficult than elsewhere, so keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. The river winds through the Coast Ranges and you get great scenery.
Briefly about
the general area: Good hiking is available along the Rhododendron Trail, and a great place like Prairie City State Park is too glorious to leave out. Man, is there a lot of exciting stuff to do in the Coast Ranges. There's
magnificent hiking along the South Fork Trail, and a visit to Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park is a pleasant idea. This river is so great.
