The Fowler Campground to McCloud Reservoir stretch of McCloud River is 10 miles long and it is classified as a class III-IV section by American Whitewater. The nature scenery of California and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here     and paddle. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Redding, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. You can enjoy this section more if you take your time, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. The river winds through the Southern Cascade Range and you get great scenery. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Fowler Campground to McCloud Reservoir stretch is one of them. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people. There are campgrounds quite   near the river where you can camp. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Briefly about the general area: Near McCloud River you come across delightful locations like Coyote Gulch, and do take a hike on the Cone Point Trail. And that's not all the things you can do here in the Southern Cascade Range. A tour to McCloud River wouldn't be complete without taking a look at Big Springs. Hiking along the Angel Meadow Trail is pleasant fun; you are in the vicinity of Cone Point since you're here.
