  The beautiful scenery of Amador/ Calaveras County and the water flowing gracefully down Mokelumne River attract people from near and far. The put-in location is a short drive from Sacramento—Arden-Arcade—Roseville, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good spots.
    There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend a night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in California are often more challenging
than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less manageable. On this section you do get some distance, suitable for an afternoon trip. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from far and near. The wild scenery of the Northern Sierra Nevada is great. The campgrounds here at Mokelumne River are pretty good. This stretch of Mokelumne River in California  
is 6 miles long and it is classified as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. This river system is full of great paddling stretches, the Ponderosa Way to Highway 49 Bridge stretch is just one of them.

Briefly about the general area:
Mokelumne River is next to Rich Gulch which is without doubt worth going to. Going to Indian Grinding Rock State Park close to Mokelumne River is a good thing to do; if you're here you will meet lots of folks from close by Pine Grove. This is a great river. Summertime highs at Mokelumne River typically tend to be in the 90's.
