Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. The starting location is a short drive from Truckee-Grass Valley,
there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The Second Divide Turnout to Downieville stretch of Pauley Creek is 4 miles long and is a class III-IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater.
The Northern Sierra Nevada scenery is wonderful. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good places for that around here. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. This stretch
has has enough mileage, it's perfect for a one day trip. The natural beauty of California and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle.
