If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping     in your car. The campgrounds here at Piru Creek are pretty good. The beautiful Sierra Madre scenery is an added bonus. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. This stretch of Piru Creek is 15 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class IV section. The starting point is not too far from Oxnard-Thousand Oaks-Ventura, as you can see on the road map further down. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with not too many other rivers for that. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. If you have the time you can   make this a two day trip, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. Briefly about the general area: If the weather is perfect here at Piru Creek, you can go for a hike along the Canton Canyon Trail. Hungry Valley State Park is a good place to check out on a pretty day, and going for a hike along the Pothole Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this vicinity. The surroundings of this river have so much to offer. While you're here at Piru Creek you will meet lots of folks from close by Piru. A journey to Castaic Lake State Park when you're here at Piru Creek is never a bad idea, and close by you stumble on good places like Ruby Canyon.
