The natural beauty of Shasta County and the water flowing gracefully down Pit River have people coming here. The put-in location is a short drive from Redding, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in California is often tougher than elsewhere, so keep in mind that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. time in nature are great reasons to come. There's camping available near Pit River. There are plenty of other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and
| if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The river winds through the Southern Cascade Range and you get great scenery. You can enjoy this stretch more if you take your time, so pack your camping stuff. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a pretty small number of paddling rivers. Briefly about the general area: McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park is a great place to stretch your legs a bit, and if you're
visiting from Fall River Mills, you won't be the only one. There's no way someone can get bored here in the Southern Cascade Range. Pit River is right next door to Ahjumawi Lava Springs State Park which is a delightful place,
and Sam Wolfin Spring is an inspiring site to take a look at while here. This river is so perfect. Nearby The Saddle is a great place to go if you're at Pit River, and a short visit to Pit River Falls is always worthwhile.
