CLASS III-IV 6 miles
|
| |
The Lake Britton to Pit 3 Powerhouse section of Pit River is 6 miles long and has been rated as a class III-IV section by American Whitewater. The beautiful scenery of Shasta County and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Redding, as you can see on the road map further down. This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. There |
are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. The average California whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to
| be harder to run than those in other states, so don't forget that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, suitable for an afternoon trip. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, | |
|
either way around here you won't find a large number of other rivers. The Southern Cascade Range scenery is wonderful.
Briefly about the general area: Places like McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park are
delightful to take a look at, and you'll meet a lot of folks from Burney here. Yep, outdoors enjoyable stuff truly is bountiful here in the Southern Cascade Range. There is a good hiking trail next to Pit River called the
Pacific Crest Trail - section 17, and going for a hike on the Coal Mine Trail is always a good adventure. This river is a great place to visit. Much rain falls at Pit River.
