The put-in is not too far from Redding, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Getting a good workout and a     chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the Nubieber to Pittville section is one of them. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more demanding, so you'd better keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with not too many other places for that. Whitewater paddling here in the Southern Cascade Range is a great experience. This   section of Pit River in California is 24 miles long and is a class IV-V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Ahjumawi Lava Springs State Park is a great spot. Through the warmest time of the year at Pit River highs are frequently in the 80's, and during summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. High temperatures through the wintertime are normally in the 40's while the cold winter nights at Pit River are in the 20's.
