Says Joe Clemens Whitewater rafting and kayaking in California is often more difficult than elsewhere, so keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Napa, as you can see on the road map further down. The Highway 29 to Lake Berryessa stretch of Putah Creek in California     is 16 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class IV-V section. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Highway 29 to Lake Berryessa stretch is one of them. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The natural beauty of California and the cool fresh water will make you feel great. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so go ahead   and pack your camping stuff. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good spots. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Briefly about the general area: A tour to Putah Creek wouldn’t be complete without a trip to close by Robert Louis Stevenson State Park, and there are plenty of folks from Pope Valley here. Bothe-Napa Valley State Park is worth stopping at if you're at Putah Creek; a pleasant location to go to is Butts Canyon. This is such a wonderful river. Why not take a refreshing hike along the Bald Mountain Trail.
