The wonderful Mendocino County scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Rattlesnake Creek are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The put-in location is a short drive from Ukiah, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the     page. This stretch of Rattlesnake Creek in California is 5 miles long and it is classified as a class V section by American Whitewater. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. Whitewater paddling here in the Coast Ranges is a great experience. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Getting your paddling   muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. This is a pretty decent length section, suitable for an afternoon trip. Briefly about the general area: Standish-Hickey State Recreational Area is both great and stunning, and it's in the neighborhood of Rattlesnake Creek; Rattlesnake Creek is a location with many visitors from Leggett. So many cool things to do here in the Coast Ranges, too fine to be true. A day at wonderful Wages Creek Beach right next door to Rattlesnake Creek is a good thing to do. When you're here at Rattlesnake Creek it's always fun to have a look at Westport-Union Landing State Beach, and close by you hit upon Pedro Opening which is a pleasant location to visit.
