California whitewater, Redwood Creek

Humboldt county, Highway 299 to Bair Road section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS II     5.4 miles
This stretch of Redwood Creek is 5.4 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II section. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Eureka-Arcata-Fortuna, as you can see on the road map further down. When you're paddling down a Coast Ranges river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but
if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. This river system has a few good paddling sections and
the Highway 299 to Bair Road section is one of them. On this section you do get some distance, it's perfect for a one day trip. The beautiful scenery of Humboldt County and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that
a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling rivers.

Briefly about the general area:
People from Blue Lake love to come to Redwood Creek; don't leave Redwood Creek without first checking out Princess Rock. All year is a glorious time in the Coast Ranges if you adore the outdoors. Do schedule some time to go to Circle Point in close proximity to Redwood Creek if you have a chance. Redwood Creek is right by the Grouse Creek Tractor Way. Redwood Creek is a wet site that gets a lot of precipitation.
