If you're coming from Redding it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The natural beauty of Siskiyou/ Shasta County and the beautiful way the water current moves     down the stream are reasons enough to come here and paddle. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in California tend to be more challenging than the national average, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many runs in this state are not easy. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good places. This river system is full of great paddling stretches, the Box Canyon Dam to Dunsmuir stretch is just one of them. This is a pretty decent   length section, you can easily run it on an afternoon. No shortage of good hotels, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Briefly about the general area: You might want to pay a visit to Box Canyon if you're here at Sacramento River. Ney Springs is a pleasant local attraction, and Castle Crags State Park is a pleasant site. This is a really good river. You're sure to run into some fine folks from Dunsmuir here, and if the weather is fine, you can go for a hike along the Crags Trail. Faery Falls is always fun to check out, and while you're here you can take a hike along the Castle Lake Trail.
