This stretch of Sacramento River in California is 5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III-IV section of whitewater. The put-in location is a short drive from Redding, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good places for that around here. The scenic beauty of Siskiyou/ Shasta County and the playfulness of the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle.
| There are so many stretches to paddle in this river system, the Dunsmuir to Castle Craig stretch is just one of many. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, suitable for an afternoon trip. There are nice comfortable hotels here, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.

everybody loves Castle Crags State Park. Soda Spring is a picturesque spot to explore while you're at Sacramento River. On a great day at Sacramento River you can take a hike along the Crags Trail; a short visit to Soda
Springs is always worthwhile. Here at Sacramento River you'll probably meet some folks from Dunsmuir; there is a nice hiking trail close by called the Castle Lake Trail. At Sacramento River all through the summertime months
highs are in the 80's. Once the sun is down it sinks down to the 40's. The winter comes with highs in the 40's, and overnight lows at Sacramento River through the winter mostly plunge into the 20's.
