The put-in is not too far from Redding, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The wonderful California scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water beats anything. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll find lots of paddling     spots. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The campgrounds here at Sacramento River are pretty good. There are plenty of other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so why not pack your camp stove too. The average California whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind   that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. Briefly about the general area: Don't leave Sacramento River without visiting Castle Crags State Park, and you can go for a hike on the Crags Trail. Sacramento River is not far at all from Lakehead, and don't leave Sacramento River without first going for a hike along the Echo Lake Trail. This river is always fun. For the duration of the months of summer here at Sacramento River, high temperatures generally reach the 80's while night lows are mostly in the 40's. All through the winter highs are in the 40's while the cold winter nights at Sacramento River are in the 20's.
