  Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging than the national average, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. The beautiful scenery of California and the playfulness of the water have people coming here. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp.
    The starting location is a short drive from Medford, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you
might end up sleeping in your car. There are so many sections to paddle in this river system, the Idlewild Campground to Sawyers Bar section is just one of many. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good spots for that around here. This stretch has has enough mileage, good for a one day paddling trip. When you're paddling down a Klamath Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery  
along the way too. The Idlewild Campground to Sawyers Bar section of Salmon River is 7.9 miles long and it is classified as a class III-IV section by American Whitewater.

Briefly about the general area:
Take a hike on the Deacon Lee Trail, and Little Rattlesnake Gulch is a wonderful place to spend some time. Just can't get enough of the Klamath Mountains. Why not take a refreshing hike along the Tanners Peak Trail. For the duration of the days of summer at Salmon River temperatures are ordinarily in the 90's, and all through the night it cools down to the 50's. For the period of the wintertime highs are commonly in the 40's with temperatures at Salmon River dipping down into the 20's through winter nights.
