California whitewater, Salmon River - South Fork

Siskiyou county, Limestone Bluffs to Matthews Creek Campground section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS IV-V     6 miles
If you're coming from Eureka-Arcata-Fortuna it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so don't forget that the rivers in this state are less manageable. The natural beauty of Siskiyou County and the sparkling of the sunlight
on the water beats anything. This section of Salmon River - South Fork is 6 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class IV-V section. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, you can easily
run it on an afternoon. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. This is not the only paddling stretch in this river system, there are others too. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling rivers. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you
might end up sleeping in your car. The wild scenery of the Klamath Mountains is great. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby.

Briefly about the general area:
Going for a hike on the Garden Gulch Trail is always a fine adventure, and you'll meet a lot of people from Forks Of Salmon here. Whohoo, so much cool stuff in one place! The Klamath Mountains is peerless! Go for a hike on the Tanners Peak Trail, and nearby you find wonderful places like Butcher Gulch. This is such a fun river. You simply have to go to Limestone Bluffs while you're here at Salmon River - South Fork.
