California whitewater, San Antonio Monterey county, Above and down to Mission San Antonio de Padua section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II     10.7 miles   The Above and down to Mission San Antonio de Padua stretch of San Antonio in Monterey County is 10.7 miles long and is a class II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The scenic beauty of Monterey County and the playfulness of the water attract people from near and far. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no     problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Salinas, as you can see on the road map further down. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you won't find many other paddling places. A bit of exercise and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. The Santa Lucia Range scenery is wonderful. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in California is often tougher than elsewhere, so better not forget that many runs in this state are not easy. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few   others too. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so go ahead and pack your camping stuff. Briefly about the general area: A journey to Sand Dollar Beach next to San Antonio is always a wonderful idea, and you're sure to bump into some fine people from Jolon here. Having a great time in the Santa Lucia Range is trouble-free. There's good hiking along the Girard Trail, and China Gulch is nearby, and is a great place. This river is so wonderful. Hiking is a popular thing to do around San Antonio; Arroyo Seco Trail is a delightful local trail.
