California whitewater, San Joaquin River

Madera Fresno county, Dam 6 reservoir to Reddinger Reservoir section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS V     8 miles
The wonderful California scenery and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. If you're coming from Madera it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. This stretch of San Joaquin River in California is 8 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class V section. When you're paddling down a
Central Sierra Nevada river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. This is a pretty decent length
section, good for a one day paddling trip. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in California tend to be more challenging than the national average, so keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels
fill up quick. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a large number of paddling places. The Dam 6 reservoir to Reddinger Reservoir section is one of many paddling sections in this river system.

Briefly about the general area:
San Joaquin River is right by the Red Mountain Trail, and there are plenty of folks from Big Creek here. Not enough hours in a day to enjoy the Central Sierra Nevada. A day on the slopes of Sierra Summit is just what you need, and dropping by Sierra National Forest is a tremendous thing to do. This river has it all.
