California whitewater, San Joaquin River

Madera Fresno county, Redinger Dam to Kerckhoff Reservoir section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS III-IV     6 miles
The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in California are often tougher than in other states, so don't forget that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. The natural beauty of California and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. The starting location is a short drive from Madera, as you can see on the road map further down. For all you camping people there are
campgrounds nearby. This stretch of San Joaquin River in Madera/Fresno County is 6 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III-IV section. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting
or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good places. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. There are plenty of other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature have people coming from far and near. The beautiful Central Sierra Nevada scenery is an added bonus.
This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, it's good length for a morning trip.
