California whitewater, San Joaquin River

Madera Fresno county, Kerckhoff Reservoir to Millerton Reservoir section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS III-V     11 miles
The beautiful scenery of California and the playfulness of the water beats anything. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in California is often more difficult than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. The wild scenery of the Central Sierra Nevada is great. There arenít any hotels right nearby but if
you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you donít have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good
places for that around here. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so pack your sleeping bag. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Madera, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. This stretch of San Joaquin River is 11 miles long and is a class III-V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Getting your paddling muscles activated
and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people.
