California whitewater, Smith River - Middle Fork Del Norte county, 6 Miles Above Patrick Creek to South Fork Road section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II-V     22 miles   The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in California are often tougher than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. The put-in is not too far from Crescent City North, as you can see on the road map further down. This section of Smith River - Middle Fork in Del Norte County is 22 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-V section. A     good workout and just hanging out with mother nature will make you glad you came. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. If you hurry you can run this stretch in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so go ahead and pack your sleeping bag. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. There are so many stretches to paddle in this river system, the 6 Miles Above Patrick Creek to South Fork Road stretch is just one of many. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll   find a large number of good rivers. The wild scenery of the Coast Ranges is great. The beautiful scenery of Del Norte County and the playfulness of the water attract people from near and far. Briefly about the general area: There's delightful hiking along the Elk Camp Ridge Trail; Six Rivers National Forest is worth going to. Yep, outdoors exciting things truly is abundant here in the Coast Ranges. The French Hill Trail offers hiking at its best; if you want to go to some out of the ordinary stuff, go to Danger Point. This river is so perfect. Smith River - Middle Fork is not far at all from Gasquet.
