The Goodwin Dam to Knights Ferry stretch of Stanislaus River in Tuolumne/ Stanislaus County is 4 miles long and it is classified as a class III-IV(V) section by American Whitewater. The starting point is not too far from Modesto, if you're not familiar with the     area there's a road map further down the page. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. The wonderful California scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. No matter if you're whitewater rafting   or kayaking this is an area with not too many other rivers for that. On this section you do get some distance, you can easily run it on an afternoon. Briefly about the general area: During your spree to Stanislaus River you'll meet some people from Copperopolis for sure. Turlock Lake State Park is both perfect and beautiful, and it's near Stanislaus River, and beaches are great and Cocklebur Beach is no exception. This is such a wonderful river. Stanislaus River gets very little rain. January is the month that gets the most rain; July meanwhile is the driest month. All through the days of summer here at Stanislaus River, high temperatures usually reach the 90's; the overnight is a bit colder of course, usually in the 60's.
