  Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in California are harder than the national norm, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many runs in this state are not easy. The nature scenery of California and the cool fresh water have people coming here. The Highway 108 Bridge to Lyons Reservoir section of Stanislaus River - South Fork in Tuolumne County is 4 miles long and has been rated as a class IV-V section by American Whitewater.
    If you're coming from Phoenix Lake-Cedar Ridge it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, as you can see on the road map further down. This stretch is mid length, suitable for an afternoon trip. No matter if you're
whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good places for that around here. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back for more. There's camping available near Stanislaus River - South Fork. The beauty of the Central Sierra Nevada is a great plus for this river. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. Not too many hotels nearby,  
you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.

Briefly about the general area:
Stoddard Spring is a picturesque place to go to while you're at Stanislaus River - South Fork. The good people of Phoenix Lake-Cedar Ridge like to hang out nearby. Stanislaus National Forest is a good site, and what would winter be without some skiing at Dodge Ridge. At this river you will never have a bad time. Calaveras Big Trees State Park is a splendid location to check out. Summertime highs at Stanislaus River - South Fork typically tend to be in the 80's.
