When the water is high, this run can get you in a lot of a trouble. After a logjam swallowed my brother's boat he was stranded miles in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by the steep terrain of the Eel river. I had to look for him during the night with a whistle and light. Take it from a local, don't take this run lightly. Class three doesn't say anything about how choked the run is. Says TomkiPimp
The scenic beauty of California |
and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This stretch of Tomki Creek in Mendocino County is 9.3 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III section.
| If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside California you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so you'd better keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. This stretch is mid length, suitable for an afternoon trip. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. If you're coming from | |

Ukiah it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near.
Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here. The Coast Ranges scenery is wonderful. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come
because it is a very popular destination.
Briefly about the general area: During your visit to Tomki Creek you'll meet some people from Potter Valley for sure.
