California whitewater, Trinity River

Trinity county, Cedar Flat to Hawkins Bar section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS IV-V     10 miles

You gotta run this section of the trinity. All can be portaged except the bottom drop of number 3. Says Lou

The starting location is a short drive from Eureka-Arcata-Fortuna, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The nature scenery of California and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors
are great attractions for lots of people. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. You
can enjoy this section more if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your sleeping bag. This stretch of Trinity River is 10 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class IV-V section of whitewater. This is not the only paddling stretch in this river system, there are others too. Whitewater paddling here in the Coast Ranges is a great experience. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging
than the national average, so better not forget that many runs in this state are not easy. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of places for that. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby.

Briefly about the general area:
A journey to Burnt Ranch Falls will fill your spirit with great feelings; if you're popping by from Salyer, you won't be the only one. And if that's not enough there's lots more enjoyable stuff to do in the Coast Ranges. If the weather is good here at Trinity River, you can go for a hike along the Grouse Creek Tractor Trail, and do put some time aside to spend at Gray Falls since you're here at Trinity River.
