The put-in is not too far from Eureka-Arcata-Fortuna, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The West Fork to Senteney Creek stretch of Van Duzen River in Trinity County is 7.2 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III section. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from far and near. The scenic beauty of California and the cool fresh |
water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the West Fork to Senteney Creek stretch is one of them. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but
| you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The wild scenery of the Coast Ranges is great. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so you'd better keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less manageable. Briefly about the general area: Good hiking is available along the Ruth Hayfork Trail,
and lots of folks from Zenia come here. There's no way someone can get bored here in the Coast Ranges. Coon Gulch is close to Van Duzen River and is unquestionably a good place to stop at, and don't leave Van Duzen River
without first going for a hike along the Ben Arthur Trail. This river is so great. You should absolutely pop by Red Rock while you're here at Van Duzen River.
