  The starting location is a short drive from Gardnerville Ranchos, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in California is often tougher than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many runs in this state are not easy. This stretch of West Walker River in California is 2.3 miles long and is a class IV-V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. This
    is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. You can pitch a tent or park your
RV at a nearby campground. The wonderful Mono County scenery and the playfulness of the water make the trip here worthwhile. The Central Sierra Nevada scenery is wonderful. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This stretch is short so no need to bring snacks. Since you're on this site you are probably into  
whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places.

Briefly about the general area:
Everybody loves Echo Canyon State Park, and why not take a refreshing hike along the Lost Canyon Trail. Yep, outdoors fun stuff truly is abundant here in the Central Sierra Nevada. A visit to Silver Falls will fill your spirit with great feelings. The Early Emigrant and Indian Trail offers hiking at its best, and West Walker River is a place with many visitors from Coleville. High temperatures at West Walker River throughout the summer are in the 80's.
