California whitewater, Willow Creek

Madera county, Chilkoot Campground to Bass Lake section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS V     3 miles
The beautiful scenery of Madera County and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far. The starting point is not too far from Madera, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. This is a pretty short section so better bring some good walking shoes. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. There are campgrounds quite near the river where
you can camp. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good places for
that around here. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more demanding, so don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the Chilkoot Campground to Bass Lake section is one of them. The beautiful Central Sierra Nevada scenery is an added bonus. This stretch of Willow Creek is 3 miles long and is according to
American Whitewater a class V section of whitewater.

Briefly about the general area:
Yosemite National Park is a fine local destination here at Willow Creek, and Slick Rock is an out of the ordinary site to check out while at Willow Creek. These mountains rock, just check out all the entertaining things to do in the Central Sierra Nevada. Have a great hiking adventure along the Chilnualna Fall Trail, and Angle Falls is a good local attraction. At this river you will always have a good time. While you're here at Willow Creek you have to pop by Willow Cove It's always great to have a look at Devils Slide.
