CLASS IV-V     6 miles
  The put-in location is a short drive from Silverthorne, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. This section of Arkansas River is 6 miles long and is a class IV-V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good rivers for that around here. This
    river system is full of great paddling sections, the Granite to Numbers Launch Site section is just one of them. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Colorado is often tougher than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here
don't forget that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. This is a pretty decent length section, it's good length for a morning trip. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend a night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The beautiful scenery of Chaffee County and the playfulness  
of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle.

Briefly about the general area:
If you're visiting Arkansas River from Silverthorne, you won't be the only one. Why not take a refreshing hike along the Wheeler Dillion Trail, and the slopes of Copper Mountain are so inviting nobody can resist. This is such a great river. Ptarmigan Pass is a nice site to stop by close by, and Arkansas River is right by the Wheeler Trail. Arkansas River gets very little rain. The month with most of the rain is July, and the driest month of the year is February. At Arkansas River throughout the summertime months highs are in the 70's.
