This stretch of Arkansas River in Chaffee County is 13 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III section. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. When you're paddling down a Sawatch Range river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Colorado is often more difficult than elsewhere, so better not forget that rivers here are less forgiving. No matter if you're whitewater   rafting or kayaking there are lots of good places for that around here. This section has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so why not pack your camping stuff too. Briefly about the general area: There is a perfect hiking trail in the neighborhood of Arkansas River called the Browns Creek Trail; the friendly people of Nathrop like to hang out nearby. All the outdoors cool stuff in the Sawatch Range will keep you coming back over and over. Near Arkansas River you discover the Round Hill Trail which is a great hiking trail. Through the months of summer at Arkansas River highs are regularly in the 80's, and during the night it cools down to the 40's.
