Colorado whitewater, Blue River

Summit Grand county, Green Mountain Reservoir to Spring Creek Road section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS III     3.8 miles
The average Colorado whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Silverthorne, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The wonderful Colorado scenery and the playfulness of the water make the trip here worthwhile. No matter if you're
whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature are sure to
keep you coming back for more. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The beautiful Park Range scenery is an added bonus. This stretch is short so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the Green Mountain Reservoir to Spring Creek
Road section is one of them. The Green Mountain Reservoir to Spring Creek Road stretch of Blue River is 3.8 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III section of whitewater.

Briefly about the general area:
This is a popular location for folks from Silverthorne; you can go for a hike on the Surprise Trail. So much enjoyable stuff to do in the Park Range, not sufficient time. Near Blue River you locate Miller Gulch which is a great location to pop by. Going for a hike on the Eaglesmere Trail is always a delightful adventure, and what would winter be without some skiing at Vail.
