  If you're coming from Edwards it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, as you can see on the road map further down. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more demanding, so if you're not from around here don't forget that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good places
    for that around here. This stretch of Crystal River is 1.8 miles long and has been rated as a class V+ section by American Whitewater. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you donít
have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The nature scenery of Gunnison County and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This river system is full of great paddling stretches, the Road to Crystal to Beaver Lake stretch is just one of them. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. This is a pretty short section so  
better bring some good walking shoes.

Briefly about the general area:
Crystal River is in close proximity to Mud Gulch which is unquestionably worth checking out. A tour to Paonia State Park when you're here at Crystal River is a great idea, and don't leave Crystal River without first going for a hike along the Munsey Ruby Stock Driveway. A river like this is too good to miss. Good hiking is available along the Trail Riders Trail. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 70's to Crystal River. For the period of the moonlight hours it's regularly in the 40's. Highs during the winter are typically in the 30's, and after the sun is down during the wintertime temperatures at Crystal River drop into the-10's.
