The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Colorado are often tougher than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here are less forgiving. The campgrounds here at Crystal River are pretty good. The Redstone to Penny Hot Springs section of Crystal River in Pitkin/Gunnison County is 2 miles long and it     is classified as a class V+ section by American Whitewater. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. The Redstone to Penny Hot Springs section is one of many paddling sections in this river system. This is a somewhat short section so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Edwards, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Some   people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. Briefly about the general area: The Munsey Ruby Stock Driveway offers hiking at its best; skiing at Sunlight Mountain is one of those things you just have to do. Penny Hot Springs is a fine local attraction; Paonia State Park is a fine place to check out on a gorgeous day. This is such a fun river. All through the summertime months highs here at Crystal River reach the 70's with overnight lows in the 40's. For the period of the winter the highs are commonly in the 30's; night lows at Crystal River all through the wintertime frequently drop into the-10's.
