  The put-in location is a short drive from Edwards, as you can see on the road map further down. This section of Crystal River in Pitkin County is 4.8 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III section of whitewater. There's camping available near Crystal River. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. No matter if you're
    whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. This stretch has has enough mileage, it's good length for a morning trip. This river system is full of great paddling sections, the Avalanche
Creek to B.R.Campground section is just one of them. The average Colorado whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less manageable. A bit of exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. The nature scenery of Colorado and the water flowing gracefully down Crystal River have  
people coming here.

Briefly about the general area:
Really pleasant skiing awaits you at Sunlight Mountain, and Crystal River is not far at all from Carbondale. Crystal River is right by the Blue Creek Trail. At Crystal River through the warm months highs are in the 80's, and through summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. Daytime highs through the winter are in the 30's while the cold winter nights at Crystal River are in the 0's. It is very arid here at Crystal River typically. During the month of October you get the most rain around here while February is the month with the least amount of precipitation.
