The wonderful Gunnison County scenery and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging than the national average, so if you're not from around here don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners.     This is a very short section so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. There are so many sections to paddle in this river system, the to scree slope section is just one of many. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Briefly about the general area: Don't leave Crystal River - North   Fork without first checking out Mineral Point. Take a hike on the Trail Riders Trail, and what would a place like Crystal River - North Fork be without exciting close by marks like Devils Rockpile. This river is so wonderful. Hiking along the Munsey Ruby Stock Driveway is wonderful fun; Crystal Canyon is another good place to pop by nearby. There's no such thing as a bad day of skiing at nearby Crested Butte. Crystal River - North Fork is pretty arid typically. All through August this area sees the most rain, and the driest month is February.
