Colorado whitewater, Dolores River

Montezuma Dolores county, Slickrock to Bedrock section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS II+(III)     50 miles
The beautiful scenery of Colorado and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. If you're coming from Montrose it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Colorado are often more challenging than in other states, so don't
forget that rivers here are less forgiving. There are so many stretches to paddle in this river system, the Slickrock to Bedrock stretch is just one of many. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Great
exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with not too many other spots for that. This stretch of Dolores River is 50 miles long and
is rated by American Whitewater as a class II+(III) section.
